The Central New Yorker prioritizes publishing active Onondaga Community College student writing. When there is room, however, we open to contributions from alumni, faculty, and the community. Inquire with Professor David Van Arsdale (vanarsdd@sunyocc.edu) if you are interested in submitting for publication. Before doing so please read and consider the below agreement which must be adhered to and signed before a work can be published in The Central New Yorker.
This Agreement is between The Central New Yorker (the “Journal”) and the undersigned contributor (“Contributor”) concerning the Contributor’s submission of original work(s) (the “Work”) for publication in the Journal.
1. Grant of Permission
The Contributor grants the Journal a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish, reproduce, distribute, and display the Work in any online or digital format, including but not limited to the Journal’s website, social media, and promotional materials. All copyright and ownership of the Work remain with the Contributor. The Work can be withdrawn from the Journal at any time with a written request from the Contributor. (More on “Withdrawal” below.)
2. Originality and Legal Responsibility
The Contributor affirms that:
- The Work is their original creation and does not infringe upon the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights of any third party.
- The Work is not defamatory, obscene, or otherwise unlawful.
- They have full authority to grant the rights outlined in this Agreement.
- They accept full legal responsibility for the content of their Work.
- They accept the conditions of the Journal and can withdraw the work from publication at any time and for any reason.
The Contributor agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Journal, its editors, Onondaga Community College, Onondaga County, staff, and affiliated institutions from any claims, damages, or legal actions that may arise from the publication of the Work.
3. Editorial Rights
The Journal reserves the right to make copyediting changes (e.g., spelling, grammar, formatting) without Contributor approval at any time before or during publication. Again, the Journal may withdrawal publication at any time and for any reason.
4. Withdrawal
The Contributor may request in writing to withdraw the Work from future publication. The Journal will make reasonable efforts to timely remove the Work from its website and future distributions but cannot guarantee removal from archives, third-party sites, or previously distributed materials.
5. Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the state of New York without regard to conflict of law principle.
